- All ISAT Reading Assessment Objectives are covered in ISAT Test Maker's item bank.
- ISAT Test Maker Reading Passages consist of Literary and Informational Texts in accordance with Illinois Learning Standards and Assessment Frameworks and include the following types:
- fiction
- poetry
- drama
- myth
- historical fiction
- biography/autobiography
- nonfiction
- instruction sets/recipes
- advertisements
- letters and emails
- An average of 20 questions per Reading passage
- Questions are formatted to match the ISAT
- Cognitive complexity of questions identified
- A minimum of 50 passages per grade
- Passages include published selections and original works
- Passages are free from any cultural bias, stereotyping, or offensive content.
- Passages represent a range of cultural diversity. Characters, settings, and situations reflect the variety of interests and backgrounds that make up the student population of Illinois.
- The reading level of approximately 80% of passages is at or near grade level (e.g., less than one year above or below).
- Three indices of reading level are used to determine grade level appropriateness of a passage: Flesch-Kincaid, Dale-Chall (Spache for grade 3) and Lexile.
- Performance tasks are included for grades 3-8 along with a scoring rubric and top response.
