“Three years ago, it was recommended that we look at the FCAT Test Maker as a source for creating our FCAT simulation tests. We started using FCAT Test Maker way back then, but over the next two years, as we moved into data driven planning and instruction, we relied on FCAT Test Maker for test questions which were modeled after the FCAT type questions AS WELL AS their item analysis part of the system. When we scored the tests, we were able to see what strand/benchmark was tested in each question so that we could analyze the data and make decisions based for reteaching, remediation, tutoring, and enrichment based on the test. We tested frequently with smaller assessments and used an entire FCAT simulation test generated by FCAT Test Maker each nine weeks. This frequent assessment and availability of item analysis to drive instruction helped us move from an “F” to an “A” in one year!
